About the show
Some people disappear into TV series, books, or theatre; others immerse themselves in video games or shopping; and many find fulfillment in strong ideologies, religions, or subcultures. This performance tells the story of people who seek comfort by distancing themselves from human overthinking and the layers of society, instead turning to instincts, impulses, and senses more commonly found in the animal world.
The performance “Beasts”, based on documentary testimonies and research into body movement, explores the quadrobics subculture, which is interested in the physical existence of animals and seeks to cultivate animal-like movement on all fours. This identity is becoming increasingly visible among young people, offering a peculiar refuge from the reality created by civilization.
By joining the performance, the audience will experience a kind of live game broadcast, in which three dancers and one actor, stepping into the skin of quadrobics practitioners, compete with one another. Testing the strength and limits of their bodies, they reveal the key aspects present in any community or hobby — excitement, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to prove oneself outside of work, school, or home.
The performance uses smoke and strobe lighting.
The performance contains explicit language.
